The cookies were, in fact, excellent, due to the fact that I had no sunflower oil in the house, and had to replace it with extra virgine olive oil, which I thought would be disastrous but ended up giving the cookies a lovely sturdy rounded flavour (almost almond-like, said Sam). There are still some left (we made two batches), so if you feel like snacking on an angel, and you happen to be passing through, feel free to drop by!
